On leaving Sale we cruised through newish housing, then countryside, past the Watch House Cruising Club. This poor little boat moored opposite the clubhouse seemed to be resting it’s bottom on the canal bed.
Next the canal skirts around the fag end of industry with interesting smells, with the Gas Works, the Eurotunnel Terminus stacked high with containers, then Manchester United Football Stadium. A family of three were intent on fishing by the amusingly named Trostle Nest Bridge. Further on we passed Salford Quays then under one of the arched ironwork bridges looking very welcoming in it’s red paint. We could see the railway and Metro trains passing above us on arched viaducts. Then we turned right into Castlefield where we went straight to the end of the arm to turn and were lucky enough to find space for a 60 foot boat. Nearby was this little boat with a horses head poking out of the roof, I wonder what horsepower it provided?
