Gloucester to Lower Lode

IMG_0007 Oakfield Glos DockYesterday we had to bus it to Stroud again and on our return trip we had a very enjoyable ride back on the No14 scenic route all around the Stanley’s. This meant we were now free to cruise up the Severn. Luckily Monday’s wind and rain had disappeared and we set off in beautiful sunshine to share the lock with two other boats. We had to wait for the ebb tide so as all the flotsam and jetsam could float back below the lock entrance.

Sadly we passed the buoys marking the spot near Westgate Bridge where a narrow boat had sunk. We only passed two boats coming downriver, but saw Kingfishers, Herons and Cormorants en route.

IMG_0037 Hotel and PubWe are now moored on BW’s excellent pontoon below the Lower Lode Inn, opposite Cheltenham College Boathouse. This is a lovely peaceful spot to spend the night after enduring the squawking seagulls at Gloucester.

The boat that sank, was a lady's home she had only just begun as a liveaboard in december, as a brand new boat. Poor girl has lost everything.
My mum works with her.
