Fly Post.

IMG_0664All around the staircase lock on the Droitwich Canal we found ourselves completely surrounded by these dancing, long legged flies. It was a hot day about 20 degrees and they seemed to be rapidly multiplying. They were slim, long flies and appeared to be dark blue/black in colour with a beetle type body. After much searching I found them on the internet on ‘Wildlife Insight.com’. They are called St Marks Flies, a fascinating site to peruse btw!

There are many sculptures, information and history interpretation boards, reed-beds and wildlife habitat areas along this canal. The only thing that would improve things for the boater would be to install more than just the one designated mooring area.
