After leaving Penkridge we found a nice quiet spot below Deptmore Lock away from any overhanging trees. The gales did their best to rock us around in horizontal rain and wind but we were well nailed to the towpath. Even on this long straight bit of canal out of many passing boats, one managed to bash us. ‘Sorry’ she said ‘it was the wind that did it!’
However the sun did shine for my afternoon walk and this bird was watching me from a tree nearby. I wondered if it was a young Kestrel?
