Crick Wharf.

  

It feels very much like Spring now it has turned warmer and the fields are full of lambs with their mothers and Cowslips are everywhere. Although the nights have been cold enough for us to have lit the squirrel several evenings. Whilst at Crick we caught the bus to Asda to stock up with food as there aren’t many shops between here and Foxton.

  

On leaving we paused at Yelvertoft to top up with water and there was a boat on the mooring that was advertised for sale last year. There are still more old boats trickling past us en-route to Foxton, including these two, Dodona and Renfrew.

Away we go.

     

We had a very pleasant sunny cruise  along to join a long queue of boats at Watford Locks. Several big old boats with butties had passed us en route to the Easter gathering at Foxton. Even though we had allowed time for them to ascend before we arrived, it hadn’t worked!

       

I walked up to see what was occurring and a gate paddle had dropped off. The new was was there on a wheelbarrow waiting to be fitted. So, we had coffee, chatted to all the other boaters in the queue and perused the book-swop at the top. The C&RT workboat was brought up to the lock with some new bolts to replace the ones that had sheared off. I was pleased to see that the new paddles were constructed of recycled black plastic material. After arriving just after 9.30 am after about 3 hrs we took our turn up the locks. As you can see the Cabin Boy let me steer the boat for a change!

The lovely hydraulically driven nb Kenneth was awaiting to be sold from the moorings at www.tollhouseboatsales.com a real bargain at the price being asked. There are an abundance of fields planted with oil seed rape this year which give off a sunny effect.

  

Before we left Norton Junction we went to the New Inn for roast Sunday lunch and very good it was too. Glad that we had booked in as it was very busy indeed. Can you see a similarity in my last two pictures?

Rugby.

     

We arranged to meet up with our friends Del and Al in Rugby for a natter over lunch. We have passed the church of St Marie many times on the bus and admired the four angels high up on each of the corner turrets. As we were quite early we got off by the church and went for a wander around it. There are many lovely carvings, but I thought the angels were unusual with their wings pointing downwards. Unfortunately we couldn’t go into the church to see the stained glass as people were in their meditating. maybe next time, eh.

I liked the way the ducks sleep on the canal, these two drifted past our porthole carried by the breeze.
